Yip Man

The legendary Yip Man is considered to be one of the first who was publicly teaching Wing Chun. His best-known pupils include Chu Shong Tin, Lok Yiu, Wong Shun Leung, Ip Chun, William Cheung and Bruce Lee. Yip Man was born into a wealthy family in mainland China in Foshan, Guangdong. He was training Wing Chun since he was 13, and his teachers included Chan Wah Shun. At the age of 15 he moved to Hong Kong and his teacher became Leung Bik. Upon his return to Foshan, he became a cop and taught Wing Chun friends and family. In 1949 he moved back to Hong Kong and opened his official Wing Chun School. After modest beginnings, Yip Man students began to compete against other martial arts schools, and this only increased his reputation. In 1967, Yip Man and his students founded the Hong Kong Wing Chun Athletic Association.

Chu Shong Tin

Grand Master Chu Shong Tin was one of the longest training students of the legendary Yip Man. In his childhood, Chu Shong Tin devoted himself to Tai Chi, taught by his father, but became seriously interested in martial arts only when he met Yip Man at the age of seventeen. Their first meeting lasted for the whole day, and Yip Man convinced Chu Shong Tin that Wing Chun would help him overcome his poor health and help him get fit. Fascinated by the application of the physics and dynamics of Wing Chun's structure, Chu Shong Tin learned quickly. Later, after training for up to 8 hours a day for 2 years, he became known as the “King of Siu Num Tau”, which is first training set of Wing Chun. Chu Shong Tin made several tutorial videos with the intention of preserving and imparting his extensive knowledge of Wing Chun. After the death of Sifu Jim Fung, he took responsibility for the International Wing Chun Academy and until the 82s (+2015) devoted himself to teaching Wing Chun in Hong Kong.
